Camp Focus:
Day 1: Mastering the Stride – Building a Strong Foundation
- Key Focus: Perfecting stride mechanics for maximum efficiency and power.
- Activities:
- Work on full-stride length and proper push technique to generate speed without excess effort.
- Use drills to correct posture and body alignment for optimal glide and stride power.
- Incorporate resistance (band or sled) to reinforce proper mechanics under load.
- Purpose: Build a strong foundation to accelerate and maintain top speed more effectively.
Day 2: Explosiveness and Speed – Unlocking Your Top Gear
- Key Focus: Enhancing acceleration, quick starts, and top-end speed.
- Activities:
- Focus on explosive starts and first-step quickness, using plyometric exercises and acceleration drills.
- Work on maintaining high speed through agility ladders, cone drills, and overspeed sprints.
- Introduce game scenarios where speed is crucial—such as winning races to loose pucks or chasing down breakaways.
- Purpose: Develop the ability to burst out of tight situations and outpace opponents in the game.
Day 3: Game Play – Translating Speed and Skill to On-Ice Performance
- Key Focus: Applying stride efficiency and speed to real game situations.
- Activities:
- Simulate game-like conditions with small-area games or 1v1/2v2 drills to test speed and decision-making under pressure.
- Create scenarios where players have to transition between skating and puck handling quickly, like in breakouts or offensive rushes.
- Focus on skaters using their new skills to create space, support teammates, and make quick decisions on the fly.
- Purpose: Ensure athletes can seamlessly integrate their skills into high-pressure, fast-paced game situations.
